I realized I appreciate it when developers keep an update log of progress so I thought any regular visitors here might like the same.
Moving Away From Amazon AWS
After a couple of large AWS bills in the recent months I decided to research alternate ways to host media on here. I have never been in love with Amazon’s S3 interface or workflow. I am happy to report I have found a much cheaper, reliable, and faster solution. I am slowly migrating everything away from using Amazon AWS and have already moved dozen of movies, galleries, and most of the radio shows. There is a noticeable reduction of loading time between pressing play and the video or audio playing. Hopefully this will keep the site snappy and I won’t go broke.
New Video Player
I’m in the process of replacing the default player for single movies and television shows. These are now using the Fluid Player, which has several small advantages over the previous player, one of which being that it looks and operates more like the ubiquitous YouTube video interface which I believe people will like more and be familiar with.
For now Old Time Radio and Generated Playlist pages still use Progression Player because of it’s playlist functionality.
Enhanced Movie Section and New Additions
I’ve had the “Enhanced” tag for movies where I’ve “improved” the picture quality for a long time. The enhancing I do includes color correction, adjusting contrast, fixing white balance, and brightness while keeping the resolution and framerate of the source material. I’ve “enhanced” and added some more videos to this tag recently and now there are enough in there to to add it’s own Home Page section and maybe a menu entry. Check out the movies I’ve “Enhanced” so far.
