Here is an Austrian silent film from the 1920’s where a famous pianist loses both of his hands. He is able to get them replaced, only to find out they are the former hands of a murderer. Then all s**t breaks loose.
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari - 1920
Hypnotist Dr. Caligari uses a somnambulist, Cesare, to commit murders. This is a classic and a first in it’s genre. Many movies since have used the “Genius / Crazy Guy Controls Someone To Do Crazy Things” gimmick.
