Archer Coe, a hated collector of artifacts and antiques, is found dead in his bedroom. His bedroom is locked from all entries and the Police conclude it’s suicide (they always do in movies that start like this), but of course one Philo Vance thinks otherwise. When the body is checked, the coroner bolsters the idea of murder by finding knife and blunt weapon wounds on Archer. They think the murderer is Arhcer’s brother but soon find him dead in the closet.
How did a murder occur in a bedroom locked from the inside, and who did it? Probably only that Philo Vance guy can tell us.
I ended up really enjoying this movie, actually, even though my somewhat sarcastic description implies otherwise. I’ve never watched a “Philo Vance” movie before this, and don’t really even know if it’s a “thing” or not. I hope so, I’d like to see more of this.
