X Minus One was an NBC radio show that ran from April, 1955 to January 1958. Each episode runs half an hour and adapted a lot of great sci-fi books and short stories from writers of the day into radio drama format. This is only a short selection of what is available, for more check […]
Back before we had screens to endlessly gaze into, people turned the lights off and gazed at the radio with their ears (and sometimes their eyes, too) with the same intensity. Radio can be more magical than any of the best special effects you've seen in movies because it doesn't do everything for you. With the visual component of the story taken out, one is left to fill in that blank with whatever wild fantasies they might come up with. Good writing, characters, acting and all-around storytelling can coax the mind into releasing it's impressions of reality and transport you to another time or place.

Weird Circle was a relatively short series running two seasons and airing 78 episodes. It dealt mostly in adapted Supernatural and Horror stories from the likes of Edgar Alan Poe, Robert Louis Stevenson and Charles Dickens. It had a relatively low production value and sparse music, but some have said that fact actually contributes to the show’s […]

Gunsmoke is a long-running 1950’s radio program mostly about Marshal Matt Dillon trying to keep law and order in Dodge City, Kansas during the post civil war era. This is another of those radio shows conjured up along with shows like Dragnet and Your’s Truly Johnny Dollar (among others) when thinking about really classic Old […]
Escape
It’s time to escape to the world of adventure. It’s time to forget for the next half hour the four walls of today and escape beyond the horizons of the mind to yesterday and tomorrow. Another great classic radio show. Escape has a broad and loose theme, doing shows having to do with the speculative […]

Bob and Ray
Bob & Ray were, in my opinion, one of the funniest comedy duos to come out of Radio. Their joint careers lasted 5 decades in which time they were featured in many radio shows and some television. These shows came from their home at the Archive. Go there to find more shows I might not have […]
