This is a strange little Crime movie starring Johnny Cash as a bad guy who is hired to hold a woman by force if necessary in her house as hostage for ransom. Johnny Cash acts extra disrespectful and distasteful, a good movie throughout.
The Phantom Fiend - 1932
This is the first talky remake of a book and later Alfred Hitchcock movie called “The Lodger”, inspired by Jack the Ripper. It seems people prefer Hitchcock’s silent version, this remake was made while talking in movies was still in a refining phase, and the characters change a bit in odd ways because of that.
Great Guy - 1936
James Cagney stars in this great movie with an utterly useless title about the department of Weights & Measures always looking out for the regular Joe Shmoes. More specifically they are after the crooked alderman Marty who is in the midst of an insidious plot to cheat consumers out of their product by shorting them […]
Dick Tracy Meets Gruesome - 1947
This Dick Tracy movie has Boris Karloff as Gruesome where he uses a toxic gas to paralyze people and rob banks. This isn’t to be confused with the series of shorts. Look for the weird part around 10 minutes in where they kind of break the 4th wall and reference Boris Karloff.
Midnight Manhunt - 1945
A gangster with some precious diamonds gets shot in a hotel room and struggles out into a wax museum where he eventually dies from his wounds. A female reporter finds the body and in competition with her boyfriend, also a reporter, resolves to solve and break the case. They are also working in competition with […]
And Then There Were None - 1945
Another Whodunit mystery where 10 people are invited for a weekend stay on an island by Mr U. N. Own, although when they arrive he doesn’t seem to be there. After dinner a record is played that reveals everyone among them is a killer in some way or another. Afterwards, 1 by 1, each member of […]
Kansas City Confidential - 1952
A great little film about an ex criminal who is trying to go straight but gets framed for a crime he didn’t commit. He is taken custody by the police where he is interrogated and mistreated. Finally, after being released for lack of evidence, he makes a trip down to Mexico to find and pay […]
Rogue’s Tavern - 1936
Another enjoyable “Whodunnit Murder in a Spooky House” plot done well with some over acting and low budget charm.
Whistle Stop - 1946
Mary, a bombshell that’s been living in the city, comes back to her small hometown which brings to the surface animosities between two of her old boyfriends. They repeatedly fight and make scenes while competing for Mary’s affection. This rivalry builds in intensity, eventually manifesting into robbery and murder. I agree with someone who commented […]
